Syla Swords, the rising star for Canada Basketball, pulls up on Canada Hoops! Syla sits down with your boy Matty to share her basketball story thus far. Syla lets us know about her busy schedule right now as she gets set to play her last year at Long Island Lutheran as the Crusaders enter the season as the # 1 ranked high school team in the USA. Syla talks about her recent time with the SWNT and how she feels it has helped prepare her for this upcoming season. Syla tells us about growing up in Sudbury, Ontario, being a gym rat from an early age. Syla talks about being around the game; learning from her Dad Shawn, who of course was a member of the iconic 2000 Sydney Olympics SMNT for Canada Basketball. Syla tells Matty why she chose to attend and play at the University of Michigan next season and what she thinks she can bring to the Wolverines. And you know we get into the Canada Basketball story. Syla tells Matty what it means to her to play in the red and white, learning from the veterans on the SWNT, playing alongside her role model Kia Nurse and what the SWNT players tell her about sacrificing and committing to the Program. Syla tells Matty about her performance in the bronze medal game at the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup leading Canada in the win vs France.
